WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR STUDENTS' INTEREST IN LEARNING FRENCH AS A LANGUAGE NOT AS A SUBJECT

WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR STUDENTS' INTEREST IN LEARNING FRENCH AS A LANGUAGE NOT AS A SUBJECT

1. MAKE THEM SEE IT AS PART OF THEIR DAILY LIVES: Try as much as you can to find a way to relate the subject to their daily lives. It will make it much more likely for them to be interested in what you are explaining. e.g . If the topic is literature, try to show what they can learn from the characters' behaviour that they can apply to their own lives.

2. MAKE IT FUN: Yes , sometimes, Some subjects and topics are just not fun. You can try to create some kind of competition or game that can help them to learn , or may be even use songs or videos, even a cartoon can be what you need to make them laugh and never forget the subject.

 3. LET THEM PARTICIPATE IN THE WHOLE PROCESS:

Ask them for input on the topic that will be presented, which resources will be used and how they will be evaluated.

4. MAKE IT PERSONAL:

Try to relate the topic to your own life and circumstances. You don't necessarily have to tell a private story about yourself, but tell them something about how you felt when you got in touch with that topic for the very first time or how you have applied it in your life so far.

5. MAKE IT ACHIEVABLE:

If you scare them by saying that this is a very complex topic and they will be in trouble if they don't manage to learn it, you are bound to fail. Students usually overreact under pressure and don't see these messages as a challenge at all. Try to take steps that help them feel they are capable of learning the material.

6. UNDERSTAND THEIR INTERESTS:

It is mandatory that you know students' interests. If you know about their hobbies and goals, you may be able to relate the topic  better to their livestock.

7. PASSION:

As a teacher, I believe you will always tell your students how that they should be passionate about what they do , and what they are learning. How that they need to be more focused and remain inspired by what they’ve chosen to do. You need to understand that as a French teacher, you need to be one that is completely engrossed in what you do in order to drive them. I will say you need to be a French practitioner. A practitioner means someone who is actively involved and engaged in a specific discipline, art, or profession. As a teacher, you need to be engrossed in French speaking with few examples or drama to the extent that even at times when you are not with your students, they wil always seem seeing you acting in their very front

The quality of passion sets the difference between an average teacher and an effective French  teacher.

8.BE UPDATED:

Never continue to use materials nor teach with the same method that was used many years ago; especially if there are new methods. be creative and innovative as your taking topics. Be more lively by making your students living that's active in the course of your teaching.

9.THE GOLDEN RULE: NEVER STOP LEARNING AND SEARCHING.

Engage yourself and the students in a tourough search. if you’ve been teaching french for a few years now, you will understand with me that there are approaches needed for different sets of students. I need you to understand that the things that inspired you back in the days of your learning are not the same that will inspire your students now. Since we are in a jet age. Children are incursitive, curious and industrious for some. Always give them live opportunity to amaze you while teaching is on.

10 ALWAYS BE A STUDENT: you might be the best teacher in your environs or among your colleagues. Congrats on that; however, you need to know that there is no stopping to learning. Interacting and making contact with other teachers of your professional or art will help you learn a new perspective or methods that can be used in training students. Regardless of your level of expertise, you should not deny the fact that there is someone out there who might not be as good as you or is on the same level of prowess with you. Such a person can have a few ideas that you might need to consider.
