5 Main mistakes when choosing a Tutor
School

MISTAKE №1 – YOU ARE TRYING TO FIND A UNIVERSAL TUTOR

Classes with tutor – is not a cheap service and due to that, many parents think that they can shift on the tutor a huge amount of work. Basically, there are 3 main types of classes with a tutor, that can be easily identified:

  • duplication and explanation of the school classes;
  • helping to do the school homework;
  • preparing for exams, including end of the year exams needed to go to the college or university.

That is why it is crucial to find a professional tutor that would be able to perfectly fit a stated type of class. As a result, it may not be the best idea to find a tutor that will be able to teach all the types of classes at the time.

MISTAKE №2 – YOU ARE TRYING TO FIND ONLY THE BEST OF THE BEST TUTOR

Of course, each parent is sure that his/her child is worth the best. But, while choosing for example a English tutor, parents should not only concentrate on how many diplomas and certificates does the tutor has, but also how suitable will be the tutor for your kid.

Some children may feel more comfortable to study with a very experienced tutor, but for some – a young teacher that will be happy to translate songs from other languages as well as to explain everything in ‘easy’ language.

MISTAKE №3 – THINKING THAT PRICE PALYS A HUGE ROLE

Most of the parents, especially those from wealthy families, are thinking that the higher the price they will pay for the tutor, the better will be an outcome. However, the same as in the last mistake, it is crucial how well does the tutor fits to your kid.

5 Main mistakes when choosing a Tutor

In some cases, a 2nd year university student may teach and prepare better for the exams needed to go to university than a very experienced teacher that has never even taken exams of this type.

MISTAKE №4 – THINKING THAT TUTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE STUDENT

It is a HUGE mistake. Sometimes, parents may think that money they pay for the classes with tutor is a guarantee for success of their child. Of course, after few months of successful classes with one tutor and when you definitely feel that a tutor is ideally suitable for your kid, you can slightly relax. However, control over success of the young student is a complete responsibility of parents and they have to monitor productivity starting from the first classes.

Parents have to be sure that their kid is in a good relationship with a tutor, that child is not afraid to ask him/her any questions related to the studies. Only after few classes, a tutor will be able to make predictions on the productivity of the kid and after few weeks you will able to see improvements in grades.

MISTAKE №5 – WAITING FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESULTS

It is not the best idea to expect perfect grades after few classes with tutor. It may take some time when your kid and tutor will start to understand each other as well as when they will build some kind of relationship. A tutor has to analyse knowledge of the student as well as abilities and skills.

Only after 2-3 classes a tutor will be able to predict how fast student will improve and as was stated above, only after few weeks you most probably will see improvements in grades.
