About me
I am a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, from the department of linguistics and communication studies. I am currently studying for my masters degree in Linguistics and communication studies with an option in international relations. I have taught in schools and I'm presently a private home tutor.
The methods of teaching i implement in carrying out my job are
Explicit teaching method
This method requires the teacher to teach the student specific skills and processes which aids the student in understanding or internalizing whatever he/she is trying to learn.
The major advantage of this method is that it provides tools that assists students in learning and can be evident in all areas of the curriculum.
My favorite method is the Learner centered method. It's important to note that in this method the teacher takes on a dual role where he/she becomes a teacher and also a learner at the same time. This method is effective and easier because there is steady interaction between the teacher and the student which enables the teacher assess the progress of his/her student. In most cases the teacher even learns new things he/she didn't know through this process of teaching. The teacher becomes a resource rather than a dictator. With this method we are able to implement other methods like the Discussion method and the discovery or inquiry based approach.
Some of the advantages of this method are
- it increases the interest of the student. (Which is important)
- it increases the student's acceptance and commitment.
- The student's knowledge and experience is brought to play.
- it results to more permanent learning because of the high degree of student's participation.
