About me
I believe the current phobia respecting Mathematics among Student is owing to shallow understanding of concepts, methods and theorem and the disconnection of Mathematics from reality. These most times are attributable to the shallow fashion of teaching employed by many Mathematics teachers who mostly are not experts in the field or are sluggards. Additionally, most mathematics teachers have no sense of humor; a fact that make them unapproachable.
My teaching method is structured to the end of addressing the contributions of teachers to phobia respecting Mathematics among Students: firstly, I go deep as the syllabus permits in my treatment of any concept, theorem or method. For any method I teach, I give its uses, and limitations. Also, I give its advantages and disadvantages by contrasting it with other sister methods, if they exist. Secondly, In solving any problem, I explain to the students the rationale behind the path I desire to take or the method I desire to apply. Thirdly, I relate want has been discussed to real life situations to create a greater appreciation of it in the mind of students. Lastly, I give my students a chance to teach me by giving them class work and have them explain to me how it should be tackled; this is the point regarded, decent jokes come in handy. Finally, I give them an assignment and encourage them to reach me if they are stuck on a problem. I try to be as close to my students as much as decency permits so that they can be free to talk to me about their challenges and fears.
This teaching method will help combat phobia for Mathematics problem, build the confidence of the students, give them a deep understanding, and clear up negative notions they hold in their mind about Mathematics and Mathematics teachers and help them open up to their challenges and fears.
