Education and culture

Lots of old people fear that the western education will wipe away all of African's remaining culture. They fear for the future. They fear that generations from now, there would be no African languages, African foods and that the African way of dressing would be long gone.

Looking at our society today, I see why they fear. Everywhere on the street is the Western culture taking over. Youths have abandoned the African cultures because they think it is boring and barbaric. Of course it isn't. If only our schools would teach history better. If only they would tell the stories of the African heroes with more enthusiasm.

African is a rich continent culturally. We need to find a way to educate this generation about our cultures. Why should African wears be worn only on Fridays at offices? All these will make the youth think that the African cultures are not as too as the Western's. We can use education as a tool to promote our beautiful culture.
